Just a quick post to thank all the Prep H parents for the wonderful surprise I got this morning. Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers and gift card (I can't wait to spend it on some things for our new house!) and the lovely cake and honey joys (I know the children certainly enjoyed them). I really appreciate it all.
Thank you

We got to go outside to film some parts of the movie. It was lots of fun. We found cyberspace when we went on the computer. We are learning about how to be safe online.

Today we celebrated 100 days at school. The time has gone so fast. We were so excited to celebrate today. We had a special party and ate lots of yummy food. We had 100 written around the room. We had to bring 100 things to school and then we counted them. It was quicker to count them by 10s then by 1s.

Cuddle Up and Read Day/Games Afternoon
What a great day we had last Thursday. We were celebrating Literacy and Numeracy Week at school with lots of fun activities. We all wore red to show that we were well read and we looked great. We got time in the morning to cuddle up and read with a special teddy and book that we had bought from home. We were able to share our books with our friends. We then had a special games afternoon where we shared our favourite games from home. There were lots of different games and we practised sharing, taking turns, problem solving, counting and following the rules. We had a great day.

Number Lines
Miss Hull set us a Maths challenge! She gave each of us a number and then we had to get in order without talking. We thought it was really easy. She tried to make it harder by making the numbers bigger and leaving some numbers out but we still worked it out. It was lots of fun!

Responsible Pet Program
We had the Responsible Pet Program. A lady spoke to us about how to take care of animals. We learnt what a happy dog and an angry dog look like. Some people got to touch the big dog. You have to first ask the owner if you can pat it.

Welcome Back to Term 3
Wow one week down already!!! This term is going to be very busy in Prep H. We have lots of exciting learning to do and lots of special events.
We have been learning about:
* Odd and even numbers.
* The number 12 and 13.
* Chunking sounds together.
* Before and after when working with numbers.
* Making predictions when reading.
We have a number of children going on holidays this term which is very exciting. Please remember to write a note with the dates your child will be away and put it in the plastic pocket.
We are running very low on tissues so would love some extra boxes to survive the cold weather.

Firefighter Visit
The firefighters came to our school. We learnt about good and bad fires. Good fires are safe fires when Mum and Dad are there. Bad fires are like bushfires or when a Mum or Dad is not there. We learnt about Get down low, go, go, go. We say that if there is a fire. They also bought in a smoke alarm. Every house should have one. We saw the uniform. Miss Hull had to put it on. She said it was very heavy wearing the oxygen tank and it felt strange to breathe through the mask. Next time the firefighters will show us the firetruck.

rED Writing
This week we have been using the app rED Writing to practice our handwriting on the iPads. It is a really fun app and we can earn stickers when we form the letters correctly. There are lots of different ways to practice. Miss Hull is excited because this app is Australian and uses the Victorian Cursive Print that is used at school. It even has an Australian voice!

Walk-a-Thon
We had a great day! We did the Walk-a-Thon today. We did so many laps and got lots of stamps. We got a stamp everytime we did a lap. We raised lots of money for our school. We will be able to get some really good prizes. We are so lucky that the sun was shining. We even got hot while we were walking and took our jumpers off.
In our classrooms we counted the number of laps we had done and compared that to our friends. We made a graph.

Maths with the Class Teddy
We have 18 children in our class but sometimes a person is away. We then have an odd number of children in our class and somebody misses out when we do partner work in Maths. Instead of working in a 3 which can be tricky for some games somebody gets to be partners with a class teddy. We all take it in turns working with the class teddy. Sometimes the class teddy even wins the games we are playing!

Word Work with the app Show Me
We are using the app Show Me to help us practise our coloured words. We write our words in any colour we want and then record our voices saying the words. The app is really easy to use and we know how to save our work and put our name on it.
It's taking a while to upload videos at this stage so here is a sample of the work we have done and hopefully Miss Hull can upload more soon.

Police Visit
Today we had a visit from First Constable Ben and his police car. We were so excited to see a police car. We got to see the lights flashing and hear the siren but it was very soft. We looked inside the car and saw lots of buttons. Daniel got to turn the lights off.
In the classroom we asked Ben lots of questions about being a police officer. Police officers help to keep us safe. If we get lost we can ask a police officer for help. It says POLICE on the special uniform they wear. We can call 000 for help. There are boy and girl police officers and when we grow up some children from Prep H might be police officers.
Thanks Ben!

Visualising
Last week we used the iPads in Reading and Writing Workshop. Our reading strategy is visualising and we are learning about how good readers make a movie in their heads while they are reading. We used the book The Tiny Seed to practice visualising and then we drew a picture of what we saw in our minds using the app Doodle Buddy. We took a screen shot of the picture to share on our blog.

The Farm
We went to the farm. It was a rainy day. We saw lots of animals. Some animals we saw were fluffy like the bunny rabbits, gunia pigs and sheep. We saw a pig. The pig was rolling in the mud. We saw piglets too. We watched a video about how cows give us milk. We went on a train and it took us to the duck pond. We fed the ducks bread. We said thank you to Farmer Daniel for showing us around the farm. We were very lucky to have so many Mums come and help on the excursion too. We had lots of fun!
Wednesday 15 May 2013
We have so much fun working with our buddies in 6R. Every week we look forward to this most and always cheer in the morning when we know our buddies are coming. We have done so much with our buddies this year. We made fire trucks when learning about the letter F. Our trucks had ladders, windows, bells and horns.
We made kites when learning about the letter K and we flew these on the oval.
We made Mothers Day cards for our Mums.
Monday 6 May 2013

Recentely we started using the iPads in the classroom. The children were incredibly excited to use these devices. Miss Hull was very impressed by the skills the children have in using them and the little prompting they needed to work the device. We used an app called Spelling Bug where the children heard a word and had to put the letters in the correct order. We also took video of our retells of the story 'Dan and the Parrot'.

The Fabulous Number 10
We have been learning about the number 10 in Maths. We had to use things in the classroom to show the number 10 and some of the things we came up with are in the photos below. We know so much about the number and can show this number in so many ways. We can get 10 objects, make a bundle of 10 with straws, show that 5 + 5 = 10 with two dice, write down other sums that equal 10 and show 10 on a 10s frame.
Monday 22 April 2013
Today we made a Number Fact Rainbow. We put numbers at the end of the rainbow that added up to 10. We used unifix cubes to help us. We learnt that 0+10=10, 5+5=10, 6+4=10, 8+2=10, 1+9=10 and 3+7=10.
